Tennessee congressman ridicules culture of guns and Bibles

The U.S. Senate can’t pass more gun control legislation because too many people value guns and Bibles — at least according to U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Memphis, who said it’s a political, and possibly, cultural problem.

Cohen said as much on MSNBC Wednesday.

Tennessee Watchdog contacted Cohen’s office Thursday hoping to ask his spokesman Ben Garmissa, what, specifically, is wrong with a person who appreciates guns and Bibles?

Better yet, are people who value guns and Bibles really the cause of so much violence in America?

Unfortunately, Garmissa did not respond to our two messages.

On the MSNBC program, Cohen lamented that Senate Democrats, and even certain Republicans, can’t dare support gun control measures for fear that voters will retaliate.

So, there you have it. One of Tennessee’s two Democrats in Congress thinks you’re the problem with America if you value your Bible. Meanwhile, the other Democrat congressman from Tennessee, Nashville’s Rep. Jim Cooper, walked out of a congressional hearing today on Benghazi just before the parents of the dead American heroes were to testify. Almost the entire Democratic membership of the committee walked out together, a move calculated to show disrespect. That’s your Tennessee Democrats.

He also spoke of how he angered residents in his own state after posting a highly inflammatory cartoon on Twitter blaming the National Rifle Association for this week’s Naval Yard shooting massacre in Washington, D.C. “They are hard core Republicans, and this means more to them. I think their guns are right there next to their Bibles. I’m not sure which they find more important to them.”

How The U.S. Military Plans To Hijack The Airwaves

Comments Off on How The U.S. Military Plans To Hijack The Airwaves

If you want to take over a nation, then first take over its airwaves. Broadcast your messages and interdict the enemy’s ability to broadcast theirs. When the U.S. attacked Iraq in 1991, or NATO bombed Serbia in 1999, among the first targets destroyed were TV and radio stations. When there is a military coup in Africa, the first buildings the rebels usually grab are the radio and TV studios.

Some might wonder whether this technology can be used inside the United States. The answer is yes. “The requirements outlined for this technology are specific to conduct operations overseas,” Cohen says. “However, in some instances and when directed, the MISO forces and equipment can be used during Civil Authority Information Support operations.

So it is illuminating that the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), the organization that oversees America’s elite special forces, is quietly searching for equipment that will effectively give it control over every FM and AM radio station in an area. The short, innocuous-sounding announcement on the Federal Business Opportunities site states that SOCOM seeks vendors to provide “a radio broadcast system capable of searching for and acquiring every AM and FM radio station in a specific area and then broadcasting a message(s) in the target area on all acquired AM and FM radio station frequencies.” SOCOM wants equipment that is both lightweight and sophisticated enough to detect and broadcast over multiple frequencies simultaneously. And SOCOM wants it fast. The equipment must be at least Technology Readiness Level 8, a Pentagon measure of technological maturity that means that it is fully developed, tested and ready for use.

“It appears that SOCOM is looking to purchase a preferably commercial off the shelf friendly-foreign or domestic advanced form of Software-Defined Radio (SDR) as a solution for their tactical and theater Psyops or MISO missions,” says a military expert who asked to remain anonymous. “The exact platform – whether it’s ground-based or airborne – cannot be determined from the solicitation. It would appear to be an urgent request because of the TRL 8 or above stipulation. ”

The Navy Yard gunman self-styled “Mohammed Salem”

Comments Off on The Navy Yard gunman self-styled “Mohammed Salem”

NBC News quoting law enforcement officials revealed Thursday that Aaron Alexis, who murdered 12 people in the Washington Navy Yard this week, created a webpage in the name of “Mohammed Salem.” The officials said “he never did anything with it” and they found nothing else that “might indicate any interest in violent jihad or even Islam.” So how would they describe the deadly attack on the Navy facility – if not “violent jihad?”

Multiple sources are telling the BBC that a tactical response team ready to respond to Monday’s deadly shooting in Washington, D.C. was ordered to stand down by superiors. The heavily armed team was reportedly one of the first available to aid municipal officers on the scene.

The gunman, 34-year-old Aaron Alexis, went on to kill 12 people at the Washington Navy Yard.

The Capitol Police Department is reportedly pulling radio logs from Monday morning to investigate exactly what happened.

A Capitol Police source familiar with the incident told the BBC: “I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say that some lives may have been saved if we were allowed to intervene.”

The four-man Containment and Emergency Response Team, responsible for guarding the Capitol, were reportedly “wearing full tactical gear and armed with HK-416 assault weapons” when they showed up near the active-shooter situation.

FBI Confirms: No Indication AR-15 Was Used in Navy Yard Shooting

Oops… what was that the liberals and Piers Morgan keep saying? AR-15 was used in shootings…..that isn’t true.

The FBI said there is no indication that an AR-15 was used in the shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard, despite wide initial reports that gunman Aaron Alexis was armed with one when he murdered 12 people Monday.

“At this time we believe that Mr. Alexis entered Building 197 at the Navy Yard with a shotgun. We do not have any information at this time that he had an AR-15 in his possession,” Valerie Parlave, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Washington field office, said at a news conference Tuesday. Officials said Alexis also took at least one handgun from a law officer.

NBC Washington: Navy Yard Shooting suspect took assault rifle, pistol from cops he ambushed

This is incredibly damaging to the official media narrative of “another guy bought a AR-15 and committed a massacre,” if this is true:

Survellance video shows the gunman entered the NAVSEA building, at 1336 Isaac Hull Ave., with a shotgun, law enforcement officials told News4′s Jackie Bensen.

He shot a security officer in the head, killing him, and took his 9 mm pistol and a magazine of ammunition. The shooter then continued through the building and seemed to target his victims, who were mostly on the third and fourth floors, Bensen reported.

D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department and several other law enforcement agencies responded with active shooter teams.

During that response, a MPD officer was shot in the leg. The gunman was then shot by a FBI hostage response team, law enforcement sources told Bensen.

According to what witnesses are telling investigators, by the time the shootings ended, the gunman was seen with a semiautomatic 9 mm pistol and an AR-15 assault rifle. Authorities are investigating whether the gunman took the D.C. police officers’ rifle.

This report states that the shooter, Aaron Alexis, was armed only with a shotgun as he entered the building. He then ambushed first responders and took their weapons and ammunition, creating his arsenal by acquisition as he carried out his attack.

If this account is true, there is a chance that the rifle in question was not an AR-15, but a selective-fire M4 or M16.

If that proves to be the case, then this would be the first time in the history of the United States that a legal (until it was taken), selective-fire assault rifle was used in a violent crime.

Update: A national NBC News report confirms that Alexis collected the rifle and pistol used in the shooting, but slightly changes the story to claim that the rifle was taken from a gun safe:

He packed an assault rifle and two other firearms during his lethal rampage — including a shotgun purchased just weeks ago at a Virginia gun shop, multiple law enforcement officials told NBC News.
The officials also said Alexis obtained the assault rifle used in the shooting from a gun safe on the naval base. There’s where he may have also obtained a handgun, according to authorities.
One official who spoke to NBC News, however, cautioned there are still outstanding questions about where and how Alexis acquired the weapons used in the massacre.

Are Navy Shore Police, NCIS agents, Marines, or other security personnel at the Navy Yard in the habit of leaving gun safes open?
