Sen. Reid Beefs up “Base Bill” to Destroy Gun Ownership

Comments Off on Sen. Reid Beefs up “Base Bill” to Destroy Gun Ownership

I doubt this bill has any chance at all of passing the Senate. We will be watching the Senators that vote for it and get rid of them next election. This from Gun Owners of America.

We now know a lot more about what’s going to happen with gun control legislation than we did a few days ago.

First, the number of the bill we are fighting is S. 649. Harry Reid introduced it on Thursday and brought it directly onto the Senate calendar. This means the bill can now come up at any time — probably soon after the Easter recess is over.

Second, the bill is a lot worse than even we anticipated.

We expected it to contain the Veterans Gun Ban, which would mean that you would sell, gift, or raffle a gun in America at the risk of a 15-year prison sentence because of something you didn’t know about the veteran/buyer.

But, surprisingly to us, the Far Left has convinced Reid to include the original Schumer version of the Universal Registry Bill. This would ban private sales of firearms, unless purchasers first get the permission from the government. If Senators can pass this de facto registration bill, they will be well on the way to confiscation (see, for example, Governor Andrew Cuomo in New York, who has a gun owner registry and has called for gun confiscation). If this bill is passed, Senators will claim that they “broke the back” of gun owners in America.

Third, there is still every evidence that Reid will move to proceed to the bill under “regular order,” which means he will need 60 votes to advance to the “gun control buffet.”

GOA has been talking and making our case with a host of Senate Republicans, and we would hope that everyone in the Senate understands the importance of stopping the “motion to proceed” to Reid’s gun control legislation.

Fourth, as we predicted, anti-gun zealots have begun to use the “ObamaCare Paradigm” to threaten, bribe, and coerce senators into submission on the most far-reaching aspects of gun control, including Feinstein’s proposal to ban shotguns, rifles and handguns that millions of Americans legally own. So if the “motion to proceed” to S. 649 is adopted with 60 votes, then Feinstein’s ban could be passed in the Senate with only 50 votes (plus Biden). Click here for a more technical explanation as to how this would occur.

Already, articles are being published to intimidate any Democratic Senator who votes against any gun control and threatening them with the prospect of facing an anti-gun primary challenger — just like we saw on ObamaCare.

Fifth, there may be unholy alliances at work which could succeed in achieving a dangerous gun control compromise. One Capitol Hill newspaper is now reporting that “Sen. Joe Manchin and the National Rifle Association are quietly engaged in private talks on a proposal to broaden background checks on purchasers of firearms.” We hope this is not true, however you should be aware of this report and use whatever contacts you have to prevent this from happening.  Be assured, you can rely on Gun Owners of America to never engage in any compromises!

ACTION: The strategy remains: We need to defeat this bill by filibustering and voting down the “motion to proceed” to S. 649. Please contact your senators and distribute this alert far and wide.

Click here to send your Senators a prewritten email message.

Show up at their offices with a delegation during the congressional recess. Rally and conduct demonstrations and call-a-thons and writing campaigns. Know that the anti-gun Left will be doing the same.

New England fishermen say new regulations may lead to collapse of the industry

Minutes after New England fishery managers took a vote that cast doubt on the historic industry’s future, the prospects most clear to Gloucester fishermen Paul Vitale were his own.

“I’m bankrupt. That’s it,” said the 40-year-old father of three. “I’m all done. The boat’s going up for sale.”

The New England Fishery Management Council on Wednesday approved a year-to-year cut of 77 percent on the Gulf of Maine cod limit and 61 percent for Georges Bank cod.

The cuts come on top of a slew of other reductions, ranging from 10 to 71 percent, on the catch of other bottom-dwelling groundfish species, such as haddock and flounder.

Fishermen say now they’re staring at industry collapse because they’ve been left with far too few fish for most boats to make a living.

“We are headed down the wrong course here, of exterminating the inshore fleet, for no good reason,” said David Goethel, a New Hampshire fisherman and council member.

The cuts, in effect May 1, are expected to be backed by federal managers at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. NOAA’s top federal fisheries regulator, John Bullard, acknowledged the reductions will be devastating. But he said the fish stocks are struggling and the industry’s steady, excruciating decline must be reversed.

“The first thing we have to do is put denial behind us,” he said.

The cuts hit an industry that was crucial to the nation’s early economy and remains imbued with the risk and romance of man versus nature — depicted in the famous “Man at the Wheel” statue in Gloucester of a fisherman facing the sea.

The new low limits reduce the cod catch to just a fraction of what it once was and prevent fishermen from landing more plentiful species, such as haddock and pollock. That’s because fishermen can’t pull up the healthier groundfish without catching too much of the cod that swim among them.

An economic analysis by the council projected that the cuts would reduce overall groundfish revenues by 33 percent, from about $90 million in 2011 to about $60 million in 2013. But fishermen said the projection is far too optimistic.

“It’s fantasy. … I mean, I’d rather go to Disney World. I’ve got a better chance of meeting Peter Pan,” said Goethel, who predicted the entire New Hamsphire fleet would be eliminated.

Fishermen have consistently disputed the accuracy of the science that drives regulation and that indicates the stocks are in bad shape. And they noted the industry has generally fished at or below levels recommended by science in recent years, but the advice has proven wrong.

Obama: Gun Control by Decree

Comments Off on Obama: Gun Control by Decree

Of course, it’s not legal or Constitutional, but that hasn’t stopped Obama ever! The President can create laws without going through Congress, in spite of the fact that there is no Constitutional provisions for doing so?

Heller v. District of Colombia (Case: 554 U.S. 570)

Justice Scalia wrote;
“…The conclusion of the court was that, The 2nd Amendment guarantee of the ‘Right to Bear Arms’ was a personal, not corporate, right; that it guaranteed the right to keep and bear those types of firearms typically possessed by law abiding citizens for the lawful purposes for use in personal defense as well as a deterrent against tyranny.”

Vice President Biden said Wednesday that the White House could use “executive orders” to deal with gun control, as he kicked off a round of meetings aimed at finding ways to curb gun violence.

The vice president met Wednesday with gun-safety and victims groups, saying he is “determined” to take “urgent action” to address gun violence.

“This is not an exercise in photo opportunities or just getting to ask you all what your opinions are. We are vitally interested in what you have to say,” Biden said.

The White House has sought to avoid prejudging what Biden’s recommendations would be. But the vice president hinted Wednesday that executive action — action by the president in which Congress would not have a say — would indeed be involved.

“There are executive orders, executive action that can be taken,” Biden said, adding “we haven’t decided what that is yet.”

He also said separate legislative action would be “required.”

Dan Gross, president of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, after the meeting affirmed that administration officials “talked about … their willingness to use executive action where that’s appropriate.”

Are Executive Orders Constitutional?

In Article I Section I of the Constitution it is clear that all legislative powers reside in Congress. The Executive Branch has the responsibility to execute the laws passed by Congess. An Executive Order is not legislation it is a order issued by the President to enforce laws passed by the Congress.

Any Executive Order that has any effect on individuals that are not government employees in a violation of Article I Section I. Whenever the President issues and Executive Order that extends to all of the people. Congress has a responsibility to the people to veto any Executive Order that has any effect on non governmental employees.

When a President issues an unconstitutional Executive Order and Congress allows the order to stand they are violating their oath to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution.

The 2nd Amendment Saves Two Lives in Ohio

Remember Joe Biden said about gun control  “even if we can only save one life, we have to take action.”…well in Ohio the 2nd amendment saved not one but TWO lives yesterday.

COLUMBUS —

A central Ohio man told police that he pulled his gun and shot a robber who had just held him up at gunpoint.

Columbus police said 34-year-old Kelby Smith was robbed at gunpoint Monday night while with his 2-month-old son. Smith said the robber pointed a gun at his head as he bent down to shield the car carrier holding his infant son.

After Smith handed over some money, the robber fled and pointed the gun back at them. Smith — who has a concealed-carry permit — said that’s when he pulled his gun and shot the suspect.

The robber got away, but a short time later an injured man showed up at a hospital matching the description of the suspect. He later underwent surgery.

No charges have been filed.

On December 29, 2011, Joseph P Sirochman, the owner of American Spirit Arms posted this on Facebook, via Ironic Surrealism.

All,
My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms and I wanted to share my recent experience with Bank of America .(which we have been doing business with for over 10 years)…. Everyone is familiar with the latest increase in guns sales , dealers selling out of inventory , Manufacturers back logged for months , large revenue all generated in the last two weeks …. American Spirit Arms is no exception to the overwhelming demand . What we have experienced is that our web site orders have jumped 500 % causing our web site E commerce processing larger Deposits to BANK OF AMERICA ..Well, this through up a huge RED Flag with Bank of America . So they decided to hold the deposits for further review , meaning that the orders/payments that were coming in through the web ,( being paid by the customer and that were shipped out by American Spirit Arms ),the BANK was keeping (UNDER REVIEW )..as you could imagine this made me furious…After countless hours on the phone with BANK OF AMERICA I finally got a Manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for FURTHER REVIEW …HER EXACT WORDS WERE …

..” WE BELIEVE YOU SHOULD NOT BE SELLING GUNS and PARTS ON THE INTERNET “

…I flipped the F**k Out and told them that they have no right to make up their own new rules and regs..that we are a firearms Manufacturer with all the proper licensing FFL (Federal Firearm license ), SOT and that we follow all Federal and All States’ rules and regulations on shipping Firearms and parts ..and that we are also Audited by ATF and Homeland
Security on a regular basis … She said that she understands that but that the deposits will be released After they have a chance to review and clear them …I told her that This was unacceptable and the those deposits (that were a week old by now ) needed to be released ASAP, that we are a small business and rely on the revenue to run and stay operational.

After that being said another Manager got involved and released one of the deposits (to help out )… So far to date after
Two weeks of sales only 1/3 of collected internet sales have been released ..I am still pissed and looking for another
Bank and options …
I just thought the public should know ..

I will keep everyone posted on new developments ..

Sincerely

Newspaper Hires Armed Guards After Publishing Gun Owner Addresses

Comments Off on Newspaper Hires Armed Guards After Publishing Gun Owner Addresses

Funny isn’t it, how these anti gun people always hire armed security guards for them and their children. Such hypocrites.

Remember the Journal News? They’re the newspaper that gathered and published the addresses of gun owners last week and the same publication planning to publish even more despite national outrage the first time around. While they continue to treat law abiding citizens exercising their Second Amendment right like convicted sex offenders, the newspaper has hired armed security after addresses of editors and executives were published online in the same fashion.

A Clarkstown police report issued on December 28, 2012, confirmed that The Journal News has hired armed security guards from New City-based RGA Investigations and that they are manning the newspaper’s Rockland County headquarters at 1 Crosfield Ave., West Nyack, through at least tomorrow, Wednesday, January 2, 2013.

According to police reports on public record, Journal News Rockland Editor Caryn A. McBride was alarmed by the volume of “negative correspondence,” namely an avalanche of phone calls and emails to the Journal News office, following the newspaper’s publishing of a map of all pistol permit holders in Rockland and Westchester.

Due to apparent safety concerns, the newspaper then decided to hire RGA Investigations to provide armed personnel to man the location.
