Troops Redeploying to Iraq Nine Months After Withdrawal, Violence Continues

by Ezra Van Auken

A little over a year ago in October, President Obama declared that the nearly decade-long war in Iraq would be drawing to an end by January 2012. Obama went on to say, “We’ll help Iraqis strengthen institutions that are just, representative and accountable. We’ll build new ties of trade and of commerce, culture and education that unleash the potential of the Iraqi people.”

Although, just last week in the fifteenth paragraph of a New York Times article was indication that Iraq’s condition is only crumbling. With the redeployment of an Army Special Operations force, there could be more on the way, according to the Times. “Iraq and the United States are negotiating an agreement that could result in the return of small units of American soldiers to Iraq on training missions,” due to the resurgence by Sunni Muslims and “spillover” from the Syrian war.

Besides the United States bringing a military presence to Iraq, the US has a $19 billion deal that includes an arsenal of weapons. Not only does the US have a multi-billion dollar program with the Iraqis but is also sending antiaircraft arms as well. This entire scenario is happening while Iraq allows Iran free airspace over their country.

Tom Hayden of thenation.com explains, “The irony is that the U.S. is protecting a pro-Iran Shiite regime in Baghdad against a Sunni-based insurgency while at the same time supporting a Sunni-led movement against the Iran-backed dictatorship in Syria,” referring to what many know as a proxy-war. Iraq’s Prime Minister Nuri Kamal al-Maliki apparently has reinforcements to the border of Iraq and Syria to control the flow of militants crossing borders.

Much like the border situation in Iraq, when troops go through withdrawal from Afghanistan, many are worried the border will not be able to account for militants coming from Pakistan. A report by John Sopko, Inspector General of Afghanistan revealed that over $80 million dollars was wasted on Afghanistan border security, which clearly shows a grim outlook for Afghanistan as well.

Regardless of border protection in both Iraq and Afghanistan, violence inside Iraq has climbed recently with 33 killed and over 100 wounded. As RT reported, the car bombs targeted Shia neighborhoods, police checkpoints and other security areas. This comes after another rather large attack on September 26th south of Baghdad.

Obama Is Conducting Secret Negotiations with Iran

Comments Off on Obama Is Conducting Secret Negotiations with Iran

Jeff Dunetz at  http://yidwithlid.blogspot.com , the article here.

Secret or out in the open, any negotiations with Iran regarding their nuclear program are as delicate as they are important.   Obviously they must be handled by a very experienced diplomatic negotiator ..well not according to this President.

Israeli Newspaper Yediot Ahranot published in their Print edition today, that it is friend of Obama , former slumlord, supporter of crony capitalism, and friend of the radical Islamist community Valerie Jarrett who is the president’s secret envoy to Iran.

You may remember the reports about Jarret’s last foray into foreign policy, she tried to convince Obama NOT to approve the raid on Bin Laden.  She was also Obama’s representative to the convention of the Hamas-affiliated ISNA convention.

Ask yourself this, do you really want “re-hire” as commander-in-chief a person that sends a former slumlord with no diplomatic experience to negotiate with Iran about its Nuclear Program?

An English Translation of the full Yediot Ahranot story follows:

Obama’s Woman in Tehran Meet Valerie Jarrett – Obama’s secret envoy to talks with Iran

By Alex Fishman

Valerie Jarrett, senior advisor to President Barack Obama, is the key figure in the secret contacts conducted by the White House with the Iranian government. According to senior sources in Israel, the attorney from Chicago serves as the American president’s personal envoy for contacts with representatives of the spiritual leader Khamenei.

Jarrett, a close friend of Michelle Obama, is a central figure among the advisors to the president. She was born in the city of Shiraz in Iran to parents who were sent on an agricultural mission.

On October 21 the New York Times claimed that the American administration had secret contacts with Iran with the goal of opening direct talks immediately after the presidential elections in the US. A spokesman for the US National Security Council denied that there was any agreement between the Americans and the Iranians for direct talks or of any meeting after the elections, however, the next day senior officials in the administration confirmed that talks existed through a secret channel. They claimed, however, that no meeting was set between the sides.

The American administration made great efforts to minimize the contacts because central countries to the negotiations, like Russia, were not partners to the secret talks.

Israel was apparently surprised by the revelations. Today, however, senior officials in Jerusalem know of secret negotiations taking place between the sides for several months. The contacts, the sources say, were initiated by Jarrett and she serves as the head of the negotiations. Jarrett served, according to them, as the direct and personal envoy of the president to the secret meeting with the Iranians which apparently were held in one of the Persian Gulf emirates, most likely in Bahrain.

At the Iranians request, the talks will open – if they open – after the US elections and only if Obama is reelected.

According to the estimates done in the US State Department, the economic pressure on Iran will reach a climax at the beginning of next year – in February and March, immediately after the presidential inauguration. The direct contacts with Iran on a nuclear understanding are therefore expected to take place precisely in the same time frame that Iran will find itself under particularly heavy pressure. This confluence is likely to bring about positive results in the secret direct talks and in the P5+1 talks.

Iraq is considering replacing ExxonMobil with Russian companies at the supergiant West Qurna-1 oilfield

Comments Off on Iraq is considering replacing ExxonMobil with Russian companies at the supergiant West Qurna-1 oilfield

Iraq is considering replacing ExxonMobil with Russian companies at the supergiant West Qurna-1 oilfield, after the U.S. major angered Baghdad by venturing into Kurdistan, according to a media report citing industry sources.

The northern Kurdish region has riled Baghdad by signing deals with foreign oil majors, such as Exxon, Total and Chevron, contracts the central government rejects as illegal.

Nefte Compass, a weekly energy newsletter about the FSU and Eastern Europe, said on Thursday that Iraq is weighing whether to replace Exxon with Russia’s LUKOIL and Gazprom Neft – both already involved in the country.

It said that the proposal was due to be raised at a meeting this week between Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, but no such offers – if they were made – have been made public.

A spokesman for Russia’s second-largest crude producer LUKOIL, which operates West Qurna-2, said the company is not planning to increase its exposure in Iraq by acquiring a stake in West Qurna-1, reiterating the company’s official line that it is satisfied with its portfolio in Iraq.

Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of the world’s top natural gas producer Gazprom, declined to comment.

MUST WATCH: Lara Logan’s explosive speech, Obama is Lying, Al Qaeda Has’nt Gone Away

Comments Off on MUST WATCH: Lara Logan’s explosive speech, Obama is Lying, Al Qaeda Has’nt Gone Away

So Lara Logan, 60 Minutes Correspondent  Lara Logan delivered a keynote address at the Better Government Association annual luncheon, which the Chicago Sun Times called “a provocative speech” to some 1,100 movers in government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas.

The speech was more than provocative it was a warning to anyone who wishes to hear.  She explained that the Taliban, al Qaeda and its proxies haven’t gone away and are in fact re-energized and coming back in force. Logan also informed the crowd that a “lie” is being propagated by the American government.

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11.

Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back.

“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated . . .” Logan declared in her native South African accent.

The lie is that America’s military might has tamed the Taliban.

“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”

Logan stepped way out of the “objective,” journalistic role. The audience was riveted as she told of plowing through reams of documents, and interviewing John Allen, the top U.S. commander in Afghanistan; Afghan President Hamid Karzai, and a Taliban commander trained by al-Qaida. The Taliban and al-Qaida are teaming up and recruiting new terrorists to do us deadly harm, she reports.

She made a passionate case that our government is downplaying the strength of our enemies in Afghanistan and Pakistan, as a rationale of getting us out of the longest war. We have been lulled into believing that the perils are in the past: “You’re not listening to what the people who are fighting you say about this fight. In your arrogance, you think you write the script.”

Our enemies are writing the story, she suggests, and there’s no happy ending for us.

There is only one way to get out of the danger Ms. Logan warns about, that is to change the man at the top.  Obama believes in lying to the American people and leading from behind. Based on his speech earlier today,  Governor Romney believes in protecting Americans through strength.

Based on her talk, Ms Logan believes that Obama’s way does not work.

U.S. Soldiers Urged Not to Shoot Taliban at Night so Locals Can Sleep

Comments Off on U.S. Soldiers Urged Not to Shoot Taliban at Night so Locals Can Sleep

As Steve says often, you just couldn’t make this stuff up!

Reports indicate U.S. soldiers and British Royal Marines have been urged to show “courageous constraint” by not shooting Taliban members spotted planting IEDs.

The reason? Shooting them might disturb the locals.

This news comes out on the heels of an investigation into the death of Royal Marine Sergeant Peter Rayner, whom witnesses say watched the Taliban plant IEDs at night but was ordered not to engage them. Families of other soldiers and Royal Marines are telling stories of how their loved ones were not allowed to use mortars or night illumination when they came across Taliban members in an area full of IEDs.

The reason given was that “the sound of shooting ‘might wake up and upset the locals.'”

This is not “courageous restraint” — this is appeasement.

Understanding The Prophetic Significance Of The Black Flag Of Islam

Comments Off on Understanding The Prophetic Significance Of The Black Flag Of Islam

I might add…Muslims believe they are fighting for Mahdi at this End of the Age period when he will come.

Read entire article @  Worldnet Daily:

It was in 2004, when American businessman Nicholas Berg’s brutal execution by beheading was widely shown all over the Internet, that most Americans caught their first glimpse of the black flag of Islam. Hung on the wall behind Berg and his murderous executioners was a black banner with Arabic writing in white.

Since the murder of Nicholas Berg, in numerous al-Qaida videos posted online, the same black flag has been observed hanging prominently behind the speaker.

And now the same black flag is proudly flying high over the U.S. Embassy in Tunisia and is waving across the world. Welcome to Obama’s so-called “Arab Spring.”

Over the past few days, the black flag has been observed amidst the protests and riots in Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Nigeria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Bahrain, Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Indonesia, India, Turkey, Jerusalem, Gaza and even Germany, Australia and England. Across the world, Muslims of every race, tribe and nation are marching under the same black banner.

While many commentators have been referring to this banner as the flag of al-Qaida, this does not convey its full meaning and history. What exactly what does the black flag of Islam truly symbolize?

According to Islamic history and tradition, during the career of Muhammad, the “prophet” and founder of Islam, his forces carried a large black banner known as ar-Rāya into battle. The first black banner was said to be made from a large piece of cloth once wrapped around the head of his child-bride, Aisha. When Muhammad and his men attacked a convoy, or village, it was this black flag that would herald their approach and lead them into battle.

When the Muslim forces returned to Mecca in conquest after a prolonged expulsion to Yathrib (Medina), enforced by the powerful Qurayshi tribe, this marked a major turning point in the expansion and victory of the Muslims over the region.

Prominently leading the Muslim armies was Muhammad’s black flag. It is for this reason, namely the military conquests of Muhammad, that some versions of the flag today have a silhouette of the sword of Muhammad running along its lower half. Another name for the flag in Arabic is al-Ùqāb, and is sometimes referred to as “the Eagle” or alternately as “the Punishment.”

Since the time of Muhammad’s original military victories, the black flag has represented the unified and ever-expanding Islamic movement or government, and is a reminder of the expansionist conquests of Muhammad and his armies.

The element of black seen today in many of the national flags of Islamic countries is a hearkening back to Muhammad’s original black flag.

Last week, in the midst of the fierce anti-American rioting and protesting, there were even attempts to hoist the black banner over the U.S. Embassy in Cairo.

Islam’s black flag is most often emblazoned with white Arabic writing. The phrase in Arabic, lā ʾilāha ʾillà l-Lāh, Muḥammadur rasūlu l-Lāh translates into English as, “There is no god but God, Muhammad is the messenger of God.”

This is the creed and very heart of Islamic theology. This phrase is known as the “Shahada.” The Shahada affirms not only the exclusive and singular claim to deity of Allah, the god of Islam, but also the supreme role of Muhammad as the final messenger of this god to mankind.

If one wishes to convert to Islam, this is the phrase that one must recite. When every Muslim child is born, the first phrase they will hear are these words whispered into his ears by his father.

While some in the Western media have claimed that the symbol of the black flag belongs exclusively to radical terrorist groups, in fact, the flag is also used by Hizbut-Tahrir, an international Islamic group whose goal is to reestablish the Caliphate, though it claims to reject all violence or terrorism.

The restoration of the Caliphate, a goal shared by jihadist groups such as al-Qaida, as well as moderate activist groups such as Hizbut Tahrir is a vision to unify the entire Islamic world into one Islamic superstate, called the Caliphate, led by a single leader, known as the Caliph.

The Caliph is the pope, president and general of the Islamic world, bringing the religious, governmental and military offices all under one head. At virtually every Hizbut Tahrir rally, it is the black flag that will be the most prominent symbol on display.

Finally, beyond symbolizing the return to a unified Caliphate/Islamic superstate, there is a very important eschatological dimension to the symbol of the black flag as well.

According to Islamic prophecies, Muslims believe that the emergence of Muslim armies carrying black flags is powerful sign of the end times, (I believe this is why Iran is being so bold) heralding the coming of the Mahdi, the Islamic messiah figure. Muslims believe that the Mahdi will unify the Islamic world, conquer Israel and cause Islam to gain victory over the non-Muslim peoples and religions of the world as the Caliph of Islam.

One version of the prophecy of black flags, as relayed by Suyuti, commands all Muslims to join this army:

“The black banners will come from the East and their hearts will be as firm as iron. Whoever hears of them should join them and give allegiance, even if it means crawling across snow.”

Another version of the prophecy as recorded by Tirmidhi, has the armies marching from the east and placing their flags on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, as the seat of the coming unified Islamic superstate under the Mahdi/Caliph:

“Armies carrying black flags will come from Khurasan. No power will be able to stop them and they will finally reach Eela, (Baitul Maqdas, “The Holy House” in Jerusalem) where they will erect their flags.”

Christian theologians have highlighted the similarity between the Islamic vision of their Mahdi with the warnings of Jesus and Paul who saw the biblical Antichrist setting himself up on the Temple Mount as the demonic claimant to world leadership:

So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel – let the reader understand – then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains.

– Matthew 24:16

He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple.

– 2 Thessalonians 2:4

To discerning Christians who still recognize the warnings of biblical prophecy, it is clear that the Islamic Caliphate, or the “Mideast Beast” is on the way (Daniel 2, 7, Revelation 13, 17). Of course, even if one rejects the words of Jesus and Paul, it is clear that there is a powerful movement swirling throughout the Islamic world with strong apocalyptic or eschatological threads running throughout.

But God knows that it is not a matter of if, but when the apocalyptic volcano that is the Middle East will explode. As we all anxiously watch the events unfold in the Middle East, it is time for Christians and unbelievers both to prepare their hearts and lives for all that lies ahead. For whether we like it or not, there are dark clouds, and black flags, gathering on the horizon.
